The World’s Most Expensive Perfumes

One of the fun things about writing a novel is the research that goes into the world the characters live in. I’ve decided to turn my research into a blog post I think you’ll enjoy.

If you’ve read the first novel in the series Changes then you’ll be familiar with the character named Savi. If you don’t know who Savi is, let’s just say she has very expensive taste; cars, clothes and not to mention shoes! So to get the essence of Savi I’ve had to research the world’s most expensive things, one of them being perfumes. Let the fun begin.

Clive Christian’s Imperial Majesty $215,000

Most expensive perfume in the world.
Most expensive perfume in the world.

Yep your eyes haven’t deceived you this little beauty will cost you (say it with me) two hundred and fifteen thousand dollars. I could get a 2 bedroom condo in Albuquerque for that price!

This perfume is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most expensive perfume in the world.

In 2006 Clive Christian created ten limited edition bottles of Imperial Majesty, presented in a Baccarat crystal bottle, bearing a 5-carat white diamond in an 18-carat gold collar, Clive Christian ensured that the 500ml (16oz) of No1 Perfume, was housed in a vessel which truly epitomized absolute luxury. He accomplished that quite nicely don’t you think?

Its position at the top of the luxury perfume world has ensured unique commissions for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee, in the shape of a diamond-studded crystal tiara, a pair of bottles for the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, and a one-off pair for Sir Elton John’s White Tie & Tiara Ball. Talk about name dropping!

I bet you’re thinking you have to have a bottle. You can buy the Clive Christian No 1 collection at Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus in the US and at Harrods and Fortnum & Masons in the UK. Or there is always Amazon.

Les Larmes Sacrées de Thèbes $6,800

2nd most expensive perfume in the world

(Sacred Tears of Thebes) was inspired by Egypt and the wares of King Tut’s tomb and was issued in 1998. The bottle is predictably a pyramidal structure capped in amethyst crystal, with a fine bubble of yellow crystal blown into it, which houses the scent. It sits on amethyst cushion feet on the four edges.

One of the reasons for the high cost is the Baccarat crystal bottle which hosts the precious scent. If you want to buy this fragrance … you’re out of luck because Bergdorf and Harrods no longer carry it, it was only available in limited edition, once it sold out, that was the end of it. I looked it up on Amazon and to my surprise my book Changes (Family Portrait)
came up! That is because Les Larmes Sacrées de Thèbes was mentioned in one of the sample chapters as Savi’s perfume of choice. Thank you Amazon! (Muah)

Fabergé Imperial by Fabergé $600

Women's luxury perfumeImperial is a luxurious, royal Fabergé perfume, presented in 1996 in an egg – shaped French crystal bottle designed by Robert DuGreiner. Sophisticated and feminine, it is made of exotic flowers, spices and precious woods.

Top notes: bergamot, marigold, neroli, orange blossom, ylang-ylang and green leaves. Heart: jasmine, rose, carnation, osmanthus, violet leaves, cloves and broom. Base: orris root, patchouli, sandalwood and musk.

I bet this fragrance smells awesome. I love the smell of patchouli so that’s a winner for me already. Ladies, you know what to hint at for Valentine’s day.

Tom Ford Black Violet Perfume for Women $400

Expensive perfume for womenCrisp citrus surrounds a modern pulpy fruit accord, fused with black violets. Woody accents fold into oak-moss adding the universally comforting sensation of warmth. With Private Blend, Tom Ford opens a door into the mesmerizing world of artisanal scent.

Each fragrance begins with a precious extraction of a single note around which secondary notes are wrapped creating a completely developed and complex Eau de Parfum that may enchant or challenge, stimulate or delight. (got that? good.) Inspired by the dark brown glass used in apothecary bottles that are traditionally found in a perfumer’s atelier, the weighty 1.7-ounce flacon has the sleek architectural look of a chess piece and the 8.3-ounce decanter, designed to enhance the user’s home environment, is pure craftsmanship.

Shalimar Perfume for Women $390

ShalmarShalimar perfume is known as the ‘Forbidden Fragrance,’ Shalimar seduced the world at its 1925 launch and continues to entice with its daring, sensual notes of bergamot, iris, vanilla and exotic amber. This romantic classic in its famous art deco bottle is the quintessential oriental fragrance. Notes: Bergamot, Iris, Vanilla, Amber. Style: Voluptuous, warm, embracing, sensual, the perfume of temptation. Recommended Use: Day, Evening, Night. (I hope so considering its price tag).

Hope you enjoy my pick of the World’s Most Expensive Perfumes. The research for my book was just as much fun as writing this post.

Enjoy!
