Emma Cane Talks Happily Ever After

Today I am joined by Emma Cane, author of Ever After at Sweetheart Ranch. Emma talks about why she writes romance novels. Enjoy.

###

Emma Cane on Plain TalkI write romance novels because I’ve always loved reading them. I have a lot of  expectations of the genre, and I bet you do, too: interesting characters with flaws they have to overcome and goals they have to achieve, the sizzle between our hero and heroine  as they work through their conflicts to fall in love. But the number one expectation of a  romance novel—the only “rule” really—is the Happily-Ever-After ending.

A happy ending is important to us romance readers. We read romance novels knowing  that regardless of how very different the hero and heroine are, how evil the villain, we know at the end of that book, all will be well: the villain (or major problem) vanquished,  the hero and heroine madly in love and committed for life.

We readers all have struggles in our own lives, difficult jobs or hectic family life or loneliness or illness. When we read  a romance novel, we know we can escape to another world, and, regardless of how many problems the characters face, we can go along for the ride as they meet those challenges, learn from them, and fall in love. We’re guaranteed a happy ending, so we can read with confidence, knowing we won’t be crying at the end (unless they’re tears of happiness). Sometimes we just need a little uncomplicated joy in our lives, and romance novels give us that.

It is the challenge each time authors write a book to give you a plot where it looks as if  our characters won’t get their happily-ever-after. In my newest book, Ever After At Sweetheart Ranch, the hero, Will, had a tragedy happen in high school that he  still blamed himself for after all these years. I worked hard to give him enough conflict  that he felt he didn’t deserve his happily-ever-after, and I found ways to show his growth to overcome this, especially with the help of his heroine, Lyndsay. I hope you get a chance to read the book and fall in love with Will and Lyndsay like I did. And yes, they do get their happily-ever-after—but the joy for us romance readers is discovering the journey to get there!

So let’s discuss why YOU like happy endings!

Synopsis

The only thing hotter than a cowboy…

Math teacher Lyndsay De Luca never surprised anyone-least of all herself-until this summer.

First, she secretly published her debut romance novel. Then she started dating Will Sweet, the cowboy of her dreams. And now Lyndsay’s scrambling to hide the juiciest tidbit of all: that the
hazel-eyed hero of her steamy fiction is the same guy whose kisses have become her mind-blowing reality.

Is a cowboy in love.

Ever since Will’s high school sweetheart died in a tragic accident, he hasn’t been able to commit to a long-term relationship. Lyndsay is the first woman in years who’s been able to catch-and keep-his attention. She’s fascinated by his work at Sweetheart Ranch, and a glance from her gorgeous brown eyes sends Will’s thoughts wandering. Will she be the one to finally break down the walls around his guarded heart?

About Emma Cane

Emma Cane

Emma Cane grew up reading and soon discovered that she liked to write passionate stories of teenagers in space. Her love of “passionate stories” has never gone away, although today she concentrates on the heartwarming characters of Valentine, her fictional small town in the
Colorado Rockies.

Now that her three children are grown, Emma loves spending time crocheting and singing (although not necessarily at the same time), and hiking and snowshoeing alongside her husband Jim and two rambunctious dogs Apollo and Uma.
