Cee Bee Talks Inspiration for Violins + Vampires

Violins blog tour icon

As part of the launch tour for my new book, Violins and Vampires, the lovely folks at Plain Talk Book Marketing have asked me to share more about the authors who inspired this novel. So, without further ado, here are my three inspirations for Violins and Vampires!

One. Anne Rice

When it comes to vampire books, can anyone top Anne Rice, the original master of vampire disaster? No, I tell you. I distinctly recall reading this series when I was in high school. The idea of a sympathetic vampire protagonist was fascinating to me. Plus, I loved how Rice showed her immortal characters through multiple eras and centuries.

In Violins and Vampires, our hero is a vampire king named Caelin. His story begins in ancient Scotland. I loved following his life through the years. By the time Caelin meets his fated mate, Lexa, I hope readers are rooting for them to get together!

Two. Charles Dickens

Mister Dickens originally wrote his novels as serialized fiction. I never wanted to try that mode of storytelling, but once I learned that it drove such great work from Mister D? I figured it was time to stretch my skills and give it a try.

As a result, Violins and Vampires was [were] originally written for serial apps. Sadly, I found the format wasn’t a great fit. I like intense worldbuilding and if someone is reading a chapter each week, the setting needs to stay simple. So, I decided to pull the story from serial apps and expand it for print. That said, there’s still a lot of ‘serial’ in the story… mostly because it ends on a cliffhanger. Consider yourself warned!

Three: Tolkien

In creating Violins and Vampires, I built up a new world of vampires, both those who are born and those who are (sometimes unwillingly) created. Whenever I face this task, there’s one author I turn to for inspiration: JRR Tolkien. The Man created worlds just to have a framework for the many languages he invented. That’s hardcore. Tolkien, you are the GOAT!

So, there you have it: the three authors who inspired me while writing Violins and Vampires. I hope to visit again on a future book tour!

Lexa Kozlov must pay her family’s massive debt to the mob… all while raising even more money to save her little sister. The result? Lexa’s trapped in a never-ending (and incredibly illegal) stakeout for the Bratva. She barely has time for sleep, let alone find love.

Enter Caelin Vass, the handsome Scotsman who runs Empire Investments. Caelin offers Lexa a new job with dollars galore, as well as a hot bod (that would be his own) to contemplate every workday. Even so, Lexa isn’t sure she should take the gig. Freaky things keep happening whenever Lexa and Caelin are together. Simply put, the energy between them is magical, sensual, and way overwhelming.
