Who is Kelly Charron?
Kelly Charron is the author of YA and adult horror, psychological thrillers and urban fantasy novels. All with gritty, murderous inclinations and some moderate amounts of humor. She spends far too much time consuming true crime television (and chocolate) while trying to decide if yes, it was the husband, with the wrench, in the library. She lives with her husband and cat, Moo Moo, in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Stephen King. Enough said right? Cause how can you not admire, respect and be incredibly envious of a person who is as talented and prolific as he is? The man has written over sixty books and countless short stories and while not all of them are homeruns, he has certainly amassed a brilliant number of award winning works. No
No other author has had more film and television adaptations of their work than King. This is because he writes with passion, humour, curiosity and a darkness that engages readers. We want to learn more about the characters, their towns, what is lurking around them, we want to turn the page, stay up for one more chapter and feel every bit of emotion that he manages to magically embed in the page.
King writes something for everyone: thrillers, suspense, horror, mystery and even heartfelt stories about friendship, finding one’s place in the world, and love (Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile are great examples).
When I read or watch a Stephen King plot I am mesmerized by his creativity and twistiness. I love that I never know what is going to happen next—think Misery, because who saw that sledgehammer coming? I love that his characters are flawed misfits who
I love that his characters are flawed misfits who are exciting to slip into and how they are not all likeable. Often the “unlikeable” characters are the most interesting to lose yourself in. Who wants to be perfect Sally Sunshine for a whole book? Not this woman.
I admire that despite his long writing career and volume of work, he continues to create more and more. He doesn’t seem to have writers’ block or believe in it. He gets up every day and puts the work in, not resting on his laurels or simply cashing all the royalty checks he gets (there are a lot).
His work still gets me excited and wanting to talk to my friends about all the things King did or didn’t do in a story. After I finished the Mr. Mercedes trilogy I had so many thoughts to discuss. This is the mark of a genius and I don’t use that word lightly.
And finally, when I watch interviews with Stephen King, I adore his quirky sense of humor, relatable, no bullshit way.
He is a hero for sure.
