Caridad Pinero Talks Never a Bride

One of the fun things about writing Never A Bride was including a diverse hero and showing different aspects of his culture.  The hero, Carlo da Costa, is of Portuguese descent and grew up in the Ironbound section of Newark.  I’ve been lucky to have visited this area a number of times to eat at one of the wonderful Portuguese restaurants.  My grandparents also grew up right across the river from Portugal and many of their dishes were similar to those I tasted in the Ironbound.

The heroine in the story, wedding planner Emma, loves spending time with Carlo and his family in their Ironbound home.  I had a great time planning the dinner that Carlo’s family might be sharing, including the desserts because I have a wicked sweet tooth.  One of my favorite Portuguese desserts is pasteis de nata, also known as Portugeuese custard tarts.  These pastries have a buttery crust filled with a custard flavored with lemon, vanilla, and cinnamon.  Nom nom nom!

Did I mention that Carlo is a caterer and amazing chef and that maybe the way to a girl’s heart is through a very romantic dinner?  How can any woman resist a sexy man who can cook like a dream and heats up the kitchen in more than one way?  LOL!

Emma and Carlo’s story in Never A Bride is filled with romance, emotion, good food, and fun!  I hope you’ll take a moment to check it out.

Not to mention her parents’ bitter divorce which has soured her on the idea of marriage for herself. She can’t imagine ever finding a man who can bring her a forever kind of romance.

He’s been in love with her forever and can’t understand why she can’t see it…

Carlo da Costa knows why Emma avoids relationships and yet he can’t help but wonder how someone who puts such love and care into others’ dreams can’t allow herself to believe in the fairy tale. He sees the yearning on her face when she spends time with him and his big boisterous family and knows that deep inside, she wants the same thing. Carlo hopes that one day he can provide her with that because he’s sure Emma holds the key to his heart in her hands.
